Dutch Dietz was the difference-maker for the Detroit Sturgeons in what turned into a shootout with the Philadelphia Unions. Dietz went 2-for-5 in the 12-11 Sturgeons win. Detroit is now 38-54. Philadelphia is 37-55.

The decisive blow was delivered by Yank Williams in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 31-year old left fielder John Tennison to win the game for Detroit. The home crowd went nuts.

"It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," Williams said.
