| Cincinnati Stopped, 7-6, by Cleveland | Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Cleveland Clippers take on the Cincinnati Monarchs.
Cleveland starter Dan Hicks pitched well against the Cincinnati Monarchs at Lakefront Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 7-6. Hicks, now 1-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing 6 runs.
An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the fifth. That's when Clippers right fielder Victor Glaspie hit a fastball from Ashton Slake for a 2-run single. Just like that, Cleveland was up, 3-2.
"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Cleveland skipper .
The loss drops Cincinnati to 2-3. | | | | |
