Charlie Vanmeter exploded for a barrage of base hits at Columbia Field.

The Chicago center fielder had a field day in his team's 10-4 triumph over the New York Columbians, finishing 5-for-6.

"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Vanmeter must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Charlie Vanmeter grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

This season, Vanmeter is batting .300 with 15 hits and no home runs. He has scored 9 times and has 3 runs batted in.
