Thanks in large part to third baseman Chicken Smothers, the Toronto Provincials beat the Cincinnati Monarchs, 12-7. Smothers was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 3 times. The winning pitcher was 27-year old right-handed pitcher Fred Brody. He tossed 139 pitches over 9 innings, allowing 7 runs on 11 hits.

Toronto got a big at-bat from Washington, District of Columbia native Merritt Hunter, who in the bottom of the first hit a bases-clearing double. It was his 21st double of the season and put the Provincials ahead, 8-0.
