Vulcans Defeat Excelsiors in 11
The Pittsburgh Vulcans picked up a win at Vulcan Grounds, knocking off the New York Excelsiors, 5-4, in 11 innings. On the mound for Pittsburgh was right-hander Dennis Catchings. He played a pivotal role in the triumph. The loss puts New York at 3-4.

Batting in the bottom of the 11th, 24-year old left fielder Walter Blasingame had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Candy Lemmons was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Blasingame hit a run-scoring single. The Vulcans had a walk-off triumph.

"It's a thrill to get that kind of win," Blasingame said.
