The New York Excelsiors weathered a fine game by Toronto shortstop Doc McGuire to upend the Provincials, 7-6, at Garrison Common Grounds. McGuire went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The Excelsiors sport a record of 37-65.

The Excelsiors capitalized on an error in the top of the fifth inning. New York was leading 4-3 when Roland Johnson hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put New York in front, 5-3.

"I felt good up there," said Johnson. "I saw the ball well."
