| Boston Draws Blanks Against Eldridge | The Boston Brahmins had no answer for St. Louis Pilots pitcher Zebulon Eldridge. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Boston managed only 4 hits off Eldridge, who had 3 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Eldridge got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Pilots fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
