| Detroit Beats New York, 7-2 | The Detroit Sturgeons converted a terrific effort from starter Martin Bird into a win over the New York Barons at Riverside Park. The Sturgeons won the game by a final score of 7-2. Bird, now 3-2, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The Barons fall to 7-9 and continue their uneven start to the 1887 season.
The Sturgeons got a big at-bat from catcher Harry Ransom. For the game, Ransom was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 4th double of the season gave Detroit a 3-1 lead.
