Day on Fire, 5-for-6 Against Washington
Sam Day exploded for a barrage of base hits at Columbians Stadium.

The St. Louis second baseman had a field day in his team's 16-2 triumph over the Washington Columbians, finishing 5-for-6.

"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Day must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Sam Day singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Lou Perry in the 9th.

Day is hitting .335 for the season with 5 home runs, 29 RBIs and 24 runs scored. He has 65 hits in 194 at-bats and played in 44 games.
