| Keyes Befuddles Indianapolis in 3-0 Baltimore Win Saturday, September 20th , 1884 Bob Keyes led the Baltimore Bannermen to a shutout victory, 3-0, over the Indianapolis Stars at State Fair Grounds.
"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Keyes recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
Keyes yielded 2 hits and had 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in the standout performance.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Indianapolis manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
In 38 starts this season, Keyes has recorded 24 wins and absorbed 11 losses. He has pitched 324.1 innings, allowed 273 hits, struck out 99 and has a 2.61 ERA.
