| It's Official: Lovelace Will Retire Friday, September 26th , 1884 It's a somber day for Legislators fans as Thomas Lovelace announced that he will retire at the end of the 1884 season. The Washington third baseman attributed his retirement to his age and loss of skills.
"I'm not the type of player I want to be anymore," he said. "It's harder go out there and be competitive. I'm not at the end of my rope yet, but I've seen guys hang around too long. I'm not going to be one of them."
In 100 games, Lovelace is a lifetime .154 hitter. He has knocked in 25 runs, scored 32 times, hit 1 home run, walked 6 times and has an on-base percentage of .180. | | |
