| Streak Finally Over, Shanafelt Held Hitless Monday, September 12th , 1887 It was a doubly miserable day for Charlie Shanafelt of the Louisville Colts, as he saw his 26-game hitting streak end and his team lose, 7-4, to the Detroit Sturgeons at Derby Grounds. The 24-year-old right fielder was held hitless in 3 at-bats by the Sturgeons.
"Anyone on a 26-game hitting streak is going to be a tough out," Detroit manager said later. "But we had a plan and we were careful about it, and got it done."
This year, Shanafelt is batting .362 with 178 hits and 19 home runs. He has scored 109 times and has batted in 123 runs. | | |
