Provincials Stop Hoppe at 21
Thursday, September 15th , 1887
The Baltimore Bannermen lost to the Toronto Provincials, 5-1, at Banner Field, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Jackrabbit Hoppe's 21-game hitting streak. The first baseman went 0-for-4 on the day.

"We felt if we could slow down Hoppe, we would win the game," Provincials manager explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down."

Hoppe currently has a .290 batting average with 126 hits, 10 homers, 61 RBIs, 71 runs scored and a .329 OBP.
