Excelsiors Coddington Suffers Setback
Monday, October 3rd , 1887
Yesterday New York center fielder Jonathan Coddington sustained a setback in his recovery from thumb contusion. The Excelsiors medical staff told him it would be at least one week before he will be able to return to action. Coddington told reporters, "The healing process has gone extremely well. This is just a little hiccup and a little setback." Apparently Coddington worked a little too hard in a recent workout and caused more damage. His doctors have advised him to do only light exercise and give the injury time to heal.

A look at his season totals shows Coddington with 2 home runs, .296 BA, .368 OBP, 82 RBIs and 80 runs scored.
