| Child, on Top of His Game, Beats Cleveland, 2-0 Friday, August 3rd , 1888 Tom Child hurled a fine game for the Kansas City Prairie Dogs at Carver Grounds, holding the Cleveland Clippers to 3 hits in a shutout win.
"When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy," Kansas City manager said. "The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
The right-hander had 1 strikeout and 3 walks in the 2-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," Cleveland manager said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
This year, Child has made 29 starts, thrown 248 innings, fanned 67 batters and walked 88. His won-lost record is 9-16 with a 3.27 ERA.
