New York Over Wilmington, 7-5, 100th Win for Murphy
Wednesday, August 13th , 1879
New York's Gus Murphy took the hill at Atlantic Grounds today in search of his 100th career win. The 23-year-old ace found it against the Wilmington White Caps.

After the historic victory, his manager told reporters, "I saw a tremendous sigh of relief when this thing was over. He was just looking to hug everyone in sight."

He worked 9 innings with 2 strikeouts and no walks in the 7-5 victory, checking Wilmington on 8 hits.

"It a big milestone in my career," admitted Murphy. "When you get close to it, you worry about it a lot. It's done now... and I can relax and enjoy it."

Murphy has a lifetime ERA of 2.17 with a record of 100 wins and 63 losses. He also has struck out 611 batters in 1430 innings and allowed 1328 hits.
