Streak Finally Over, Shepley Held Hitless
Tuesday, August 11th , 1896
The Boston Resolutes lost to the Detroit Spartans, 6-3, at Cass Avenue Grounds, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Eben Shepley's 22-game hitting streak. The shortstop went 0-for-4 on the day.

"We felt if we could slow down Shepley, we would win the game," Spartans manager explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down."

Looking at his present stats, Shepley has compiled a .348 batting average in 95 games with a .398 on-base percentage, while hitting 4 home runs and driving in 87 runs.
