 | Runkle Sends Chicago Bats to Deep Freeze Thursday, September 3rd , 1896 Ezra Runkle of the Cleveland Bears overwhelmed the Chicago Zephyrs and walked off the mound with a complete-game shutout. He blanked them, 10-0, on 11 hits with a total of no strikeouts and 1 walk. "Ezra was on quite a roll," Cleveland manager said. "He gets great late movement and he doesn't give in to the hitters."
