| Swail Smacks 5 Hits for Unions Wednesday, September 9th , 1896 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Lester Swail, it came around today.
The 23-year-old left fielder scattered hits all over Union Grounds to pace the 11-10 Brooklyn Unions victory over the Louisville Stallions.
Louisville skipper told reporters in the press room that "Swail deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Swail hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Lester Swail singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, doubled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Arch Dolan in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Tad Kenly in the 9th.
At present, Swail is batting .296 with 145 hits and 11 home runs. He has knocked in 74 runs and scored 84 times.
