| Washington Blanks Chicago, Brannan Winner Saturday, July 12th , 1884 The Chicago Catamounts were almost helpless in their 4-0 loss to the Washington Columbians and hurler Jimmy Brannan. Brannan kept the Catamounts confused all game, spinning a 6-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Brannan," Chicago manager said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 24-year-old left-hander had no walks and 2 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Brannan said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
In 18 starts this season, Brannan has crafted a 6-12 record with a 3.17 ERA.
