River Kings Blank Statesmen, Whitaker Wins
Tuesday, August 16th , 1887
Leland Whitaker kept the Lincoln Statesmen hitters off balance all game long, as the St. Joseph River Kings pitcher blanked the Statesmen, 1-0.

Whitaker gave up 2 hits, struck out 0, and walked 3. In the postgame press conference, the right-hander was reluctant to talk about the outing at length.

"It was a nice win in a long season," he said. "I don't want to dwell too much on it."

For the season, Whitaker has a record of 16 wins and 12 losses in 29 appearances. He has an ERA of 3.10 and has fanned 58 batters in 252.2 innings.
