| Baldwin Smacks 5 Hits for Statesmen Friday, September 16th , 1887 Lincoln right fielder Ken Baldwin had a big day at LeClaire Grounds against the Davenport Monitors. The 26-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-6 and led to the 14-3 Statesmen triumph over Davenport.
"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Baldwin said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."
Ken Baldwin flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
