 | Numbers, Stockmen Shut Out Grainmen, 4-0 Sunday, June 17th , 1888 Dave Numbers kept the opposition off the scoreboard and the Omaha Stockmen were all smiles after winning, 4-0, against the Sioux City Grainmen at South Omaha Grounds. The right-handed Numbers gave up no runs in his start, permitted 3 hits, and tallied 1 strikeout. "If there was a stat for 'team shutout,' this would be it," Numbers said later. "My catcher called a great game, guys delivered at the plate and when I messed something up the guys behind me were where they needed to be." This year, Numbers has a 8-11 mark in 19 starts with a 3.15 ERA. He has given up 147 hits in 162.2 innings, struck out 61 and issued 40 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .237 batting average against him. |   |
