 | Sommers, on Top of His Game, Beats Davenport, 4-0 Saturday, August 4th , 1888 Lincoln Statesmen starter Lew Sommers really did a number on the Davenport Monitors, shutting them out, 4-0, on 3 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 2 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said Davenport manager . "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Sommers."
