Gordon Slams 5 Hits for Fort Worth
Thursday, September 3rd , 1896
William Gordon was at the head of a Fort Worth hit parade at Trailhead Park. The first baseman went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Drovers to a nice 16-15 victory over the Waco Drummers.

"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Gordon told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."

Drummers skipper said later that the club gave up "too much plate."

"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

William Gordon hit an RBI double in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Will Chamberlin in the 9th.

Thus far this year, Gordon has hit .321 with 6 home runs and 90 RBIs.
