| Washington Lose, 4-0, to Vulcans, Ashe | It wasn't easy but the Pittsburgh Vulcans made it look that way.
Starter George Ashe shut out the Washington Federals despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Pittsburgh Vulcans cruised to victory, 4-0. Ashe allowed only 8 hits and rang up 4 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
Ashe has made 5 starts, tossed 45 innings, struck out 9 batters and walked 8. His record is 5-0 with a 1.60 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .253 batting average. | | |  | |
