| Sturgeons Jolt Federals, 3-2, with Late Rally | Detroit pitcher Palmer Cherry did his part in helping his team beat the Washington Federals, 3-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Cherry, now 21-15, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 4, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. The 'W' lifts Detroit's record to 71-51.
The Sturgeons were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 28-year old right fielder Sam Booth landed a big blow. He turned a 1-0 changeup from Ronald Langford into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Riverside Park denizens into a frenzy and sent the Sturgeons home with a thrilling 3-2 win.
"The fans went nuts at the end," Cherry said. | | | | |
