The Montreal Tigers buried the Cleveland Clippers, 12-2, under a barrage of hits. Spider Burchett led the onslaught, going 4-for-5 for Montreal. The second-place Tigers now have a record of 77-47.

Stu Archibald threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball for Montreal. The 26-year old right-handed pitcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With no one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run single off Paul Jackson. It was his 24th hit of the season.

"What a debacle," groaned Cleveland manager in postgame remarks.
