| Bannermen Win at New York, 10-4 | The Baltimore Bannermen picked up a win at Excelsior Grounds, knocking off the New York Excelsiors, 10-4. Starting pitcher Harlan Beesley was a big reason why. Beesley, now 6-4, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 2, walking 3, and allowing 4 runs. The loss drops New York to 9-6.
One big at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the third inning. Ed Sattler, who finished 2nd in the FL in wins above replacement with 3.7 in 1876, reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run off New York pitcher Candy Lemmons. The Bannermen went on to win the game.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Sattler told the Baltimore Daily News.
