The Detroit Sturgeons picked up a win at Columbia Field, taking down the New York Barons, 8-4. Starting pitcher Martin Bird was a big reason why. Bird, who finished 3rd in the FL in ERA with 2.78 in 1884, went the distance for Detroit. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits. By defeating New York, the second-place Sturgeons improved to 75-55.

Sam Booth helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a run-scoring single to give Detroit a 1-0 lead.

"Not the sexiest win," said Sturgeons manager , "but I'll take it."
