| Bates Tosses Shutout Against Washington | A favor to his bullpen. That's what Paul Bates was doing at Capitol Park, as he blanked the Washington Federals, 1-0.
"I went out there to try to eat up innings and help out our bullpen," the Philadelphia Unions left-hander said later. "I felt I had my good stuff, and it turned out my command was solid."
Bates notched 4 strikeouts, surrendered 5 walks, allowed 2 hits, and kept the bullpen phone quiet all day long.
In 27 starts this season, Bates has picked up 10 wins while suffering 14 losses. He has pitched 199 innings, allowed 209 hits, struck out 80 and posted a 4.61 ERA. | | | | |
