| Vulcans Lose Contest, 10-2 | The 3-hit performance of Bill Avery, who is on pace for 66 RBI this season, helped the Chicago Cyclones beat the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 10-2. With the win, Chicago raised its record to 69-67.
Avery contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Chicago in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Avery took a curveball from Ed Wales and stroked the double to right. His 17th double of the season allowed the Cyclones to leap in front, 3-2.
"We put the pedal to the metal," said Avery.
