The Pittsburgh Vulcans clobbered the New York Barons, 16-1, at Vulcan Grounds. Leading the onslaught was Gary Vankirk. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for Pittsburgh. Stanley Lamb, who finished 4th in the IA in strikeouts with 213 in 1885, was the winning pitcher. The Vulcans took advantage of an error in the bottom of the second inning. Pittsburgh was leading 4-1 when Jim Frank hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put the Vulcans in front, 6-1.

"That's what I call an offensive explosion," said Frank after the game.

By defeating New York, the 4th-place Vulcans improved to 44-54.
