Pittsburgh got a valiant performance from pitcher Stanley Lamb, but it wasn't enough to beat the Indianapolis Westerners. Indianapolis won the game, 5-4. Lamb threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The Westerners are now 42-70, while the Vulcans fall to 48-62.

Indianapolis used the timely hitting of Karl Eicher to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Westerners on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Let's just say I'm happy we won," said Eicher. "There are a lot of people in the clubhouse who like to whine too much when we lose."
