Excelsiors Win Nail-Biter
The New York Excelsiors did just enough to secure a victory over the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 5-4, in 11 innings at Excelsior Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Candy Lemmons. New York sits at 10-6.

Batting in the bottom of the 11th, 28-year old catcher Charlie McCarver had a real shot to win the game. Pittsburgh pitcher Lloyd Helms was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, McCarver hit a run-scoring single. The Excelsiors had a walk-off triumph.

"This game had its share of tense moments," Lemmons said, postgame.
