The New York Barons pinned a convincing loss on the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 9-3, at Columbia Field. Virgil Arwood was a main factor in the win. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for New York. Tom Samples got the win, improving to 16-19. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The Barons go to 50-72 with the win.

The Barons got a big hit from first baseman Dave Claiborne. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher George Ashe in the bottom of the fifth, Claiborne pounded a run-scoring triple to right. His 15th triple of the season put the Barons ahead, 5-3.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Arwood.
