| Westerners Pick Up 4-1 Win | The Indianapolis Westerners picked up a win at Capitol Park, knocking off the Washington Federals, 4-1. Starting pitcher Wilton Strickland played a key role in the triumph. Strickland, who is on pace to win 17 games this season, went the distance for Indianapolis. He gave up 1 run on 9 hits. With the win, Indianapolis has a record of 45-78. Washington falls to 44-79.
With the game tied, 1-1, in the top of the fifth, Strickland had a key at-bat for Indianapolis. With a runner on 3rd, Strickland hit a run-scoring single off Ronald Langford, making the score 2-1, Westerners.
"You want to go out there and put up zeroes, that's the main thing," said Strickland. "You don't want to get caught in one of those back-and-forth, run-for-run games."
