Excelsiors Earn Late 10-9 Win | New York left fielder Carl Collins helped his team beat the St. Louis Pilots, 10-9. Collins, who is tied for 6th in the IA in RBI with 98, went 2 for 5 for the Excelsiors. Jim Kiefer, credited with the save, is now 3 for 3 in save opportunities. New York goes to 71-63, St. Louis to 89-50.
Steve Monson drove in one run for New York. The 30-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 9-9 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Edgar Small. It was his 76th RBI of the season.
