| Excelsiors Reel In 8-2 Win | Summit Street Park was the site for International Association action featuring the Toledo Toms and New York Excelsiors.
The New York Excelsiors topped the Toledo Toms, 8-2, in International Association action at Summit Street Park. The standout performance belonged to New York pitcher and Portland, Maine, native Thomas Goss. Goss, who is tied for 9th in the IA in strikeouts with 290, went the distance for New York. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Clipper Smith? The New York third baseman had a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put the Excelsiors on top, 3-1. For the game, Smith had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was a solid team effort," said Smith after the game.
The Excelsiors go to 65-42, putting them 4th in the International Association.
