Monarchs Absorb 7-3 Home Loss
At Queen City Grounds II, the Cincinnati Monarchs and New York Excelsiors were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

The New York Excelsiors locked up a win at Queen City Grounds II, knocking off the Cincinnati Monarchs, 7-3. On the mound for New York was right-hander Eddie Montague. He played a major role in the triumph. The Excelsiors, with just their 5th win so far in 1887, have yet to catch fire.

New York used the timely hitting of Jim Scott to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Excelsiors on top, 6-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Excelsiors manager .
