Montreal took on New York in front of a lively crowd.

The Montreal Tigers downed the New York Excelsiors, 7-1, at Excelsior Grounds. Stellar pitching by Beau McHugh had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 7th in the IA in wins with 6, handcuffed his opponent all game. The Tigers improved their record to 9-13 with the win over New York.

Montreal used the timely hitting of John Hagan to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tigers on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Hagan.
