| Sturgeons Win with Late Rally | The Detroit Sturgeons relied on a great performance from Martin Bird, who finished 3rd in the FL in ERA with 2.78 in 1884, to beat the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 2-1, in 10 innings at Riverside Park. Bird, now 9-5, was the winner. In 10 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The winning continues for Detroit, with the latest triumph making it 7 straight.
The decisive blow was delivered by Joe Cavender in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 25-year old left-handed pitcher Stanley Lamb to win the game for Detroit. The home crowd went nuts.
