Late Charge Gets Indianapolis 8-5 Win
The inspired effort of Washington third baseman Al Matthews was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-5, to the Indianapolis Westerners. Matthews went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2. Indianapolis sits in 7th place in the Federal League at 23-35.

Browns Corner, Indiana-born Will Wessels came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Westerners trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Indianapolis on top.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Wessels told the Indianapolis News.
