| Provincials Rally Late to Clip St. Louis | The Toronto Provincials scooped up a win at Fuchs Park, dumping the St. Louis Pilots, 3-2. Glen Nalley, who led the IA in strikeouts with 185 last year, was essential to his team's success. Lawrence Phillips got the save, the 1st for him this season. St. Louis drops to 14-8.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Chicken Smothers to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Provincials on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Provincials manager . | | | | |
