| Sturgeons Earn 5-3 Home Win | The Detroit Sturgeons picked up a win at Riverside Park, dropping the New York Barons, 5-3. Martin Bird, who is tied for 4th in the FL with a 1.00 WHIP, was the difference-maker. Bird, who finished 2nd in the FL in ERA with 2.71 last year, went the distance for Detroit. He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits. The Sturgeons have an impressive 42-21 record.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Joe Cavender was at the plate when Detroit scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Sturgeons to go in front, 4-3.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Cavender told the Detroit Daily.
