Provincials Earn 5-4 Win Versus Excelsiors
The Toronto Provincials picked up a win at Garrison Common Grounds, downing the New York Excelsiors, 5-4. On the mound for Toronto was right-hander Fred Brody, who played a pivotal role in the win. Brody, now 9-5, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 4 runs. The triumph puts Toronto at 19-12 for the season.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Toronto right fielder Merritt Hunter, facing Eddie Montague, had a run-scoring ground out. It gave the Provincials the 5-4 win.

"The crowd was juiced," said Hunter.
