The Louisville Colts picked up a win at Derby Grounds, topping the Pittsburgh Vulcans, 5-4. On the mound for Louisville was right-hander Ed Lane. He played a principal role in the triumph. Lane yielded 4 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 8-2. The win elevated the Colts to 40-26.

The decisive blow was delivered by Larry Buckley in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 31-year old right-handed pitcher George Ashe to win the game for Louisville. The home crowd went nuts.
