The New York Columbians beat the Philadelphia Unions, 9-2, at Columbia Field. New York left fielder Jefferson McMillen led the way. He was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs. New York now sits at 26-30, while Philadelphia falls to 23-35.

Brick Cornwall had a big 2-run home run for the Columbians in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Mike McCord, who finished 2nd in the FL in innings pitched with 523.2 in 1879, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Columbians on top, 4-1.

"We were able to put some runs on the board," said Cornwall after the game.
