Bannermen Clip Stars, 4-3 | Harlan Beesley, who finished 3rd in the FL in batting average with .321 in 1878, was locked in. The right-hander led the Baltimore Bannermen to a 4-3 win against the Indianapolis Stars at State Fair Grounds. In 9 innings, Beesley surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. The first-place Bannermen now have a record of 27-14.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Ty Vanlandingham came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Indianapolis pitcher Charlie James, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Baltimore on top, 4-3.
