The New York Barons spoiled a good performance by Philadelphia center fielder Charlie Vanmeter, bumping off Philadelphia, 4-3, at Girard Grounds II. Vanmeter was 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks. The Barons now have a record of 26-43.

Ed Johnson, who finished 3rd in the FL in runs with 81 in 1883, had a direct impact on the outcome. Johnson contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put New York up, 4-3.
