Excelsiors Come Back Late, Nip Tigers
Eddie Montague, who is tied for 8th in the IA with a 3.22 ERA, had a strong outing for the New York Excelsiors against the Montreal Tigers at Excelsior Grounds. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. The Excelsiors are now 15-25, while the Tigers fall to 27-17.

The decisive blow was delivered by Jonathan Coddington in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run double off 31-year old right-handed pitcher John Babbitt to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.

Montreal manager said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
