Kansas City got a big-time effort from pitcher Marty Birch, but it wasn't enough to keep the Boston Brahmins from winning the game, 5-3. Birch threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Boston pitcher Lloyd Dehaan got the win. He's now 9-6. Bill Nolette was tagged with the loss. Boston, at 22-15, occupies third place in the International Association.

Pete Applegate came through with a big-time hit for Boston. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Applegate said after the game.
